So let’s face it. Loungewear is now a thing, a big thing. In the run up to Xmas this year we are more likely to be sourcing something nice to wear on the sofa than something sparkly for a party.
Then if we do want to pop out to the park or the shops its great to have something smart enough that to just throw a coat over and go.
Similarly what we wear in bed is probably a bit more important than is used to be, given that for many of us working from home and so we are likely stay in our jamas or nightwear that bit longer and also slip into it earlier in the evening. Personally I’ve just purged my old tatty pieces collection as I want to look and feel good in what I wear under the covers and also around the house.
Anyway here are my top brand recommendations – all great for grown ladies in my opinion (even though some of them are mainly marketed at a younger demographic) – with links to, specific pieces from each.
- 1. Lipsy
This was a great discovery recently. I’ve always liked Lipsy party wear but I recently came across their lounge wear sets on a shopping trip just before the recent UK lockdown. They are very affordable and there are lots of pretty and flattering shapes and styles.
As I can rarely resist anything in animal print I came way with this set, which is great for indoors or out.
I also bought a similar top in grey. It also has matching trousers.
I also really like this wrap cardigan available in pink and grey, and camel.
Also just in case you dare – the velour tracksuit is back 🙂 Think Juicy Couture and Uggs. Not sure whether I will invest in this one or not, but I am tempted… and Lipsy has a nice one in lots of colours here.
I really like the Loungewear and some of the nightwear from this brand.
I like the colour of this set. The top is very cropped but you can always do what I do and wear on vest of cami underneath
I also really love their nightwear. I find nightwear difficult as I don’t find pyjamas very comfortable, chemises can look lovely but are a bit too cold in winter. However Victoria’s secret have some lovely soft PJ sets and Nightshirts I want to get my hands on.
I particularly like the traditional piping on this set.
I also really like this autumn floral kimono, also available in dark voilet and pink animal print 🙂
- 3. BIBA
On a recent shopping trip to the Lakeside shopping mall in Essex. Where I also bought some great faux leather items, I fell in love with the BIBA collection. This collection is available via House of Fraser, a UK department store. While it carries the same logo as the original iconic 60’s brand I am unsure of the extent of the lineage. However its a great collection for the stylish over 40’s and I have many of its pieces on my wish list.
In particular I found some nightwear that I really loved. As I have explained I am very fussy about my nightwear and finding things I like is a labour of years rather than months.
Here is why
- I need to be very comfortable, so most artificial fibres are out
- I want to look stylish and a bit sexy, but sexy you can answer the door in if you have to, not full on boudoir!
- I don’t want to be super warm as I over heat easily in bed
- I don’t like things cutesy logos’ or sayings, obvious branding or bright colours
- Frumpy floor length flannel and cotton is out
- Pyjamas are generally out
- I don’t have an unlimited budget for luxury silk items.
Therefore this means when I find some items I like I buy all of them. Here are some of the items I purchased recently from the BIBA nightwear collection. In general I love them all, and they are made of viscose and other skin friendly fabrics.
I’ve been a bit reluctant to jump on the White Company bandwagon. Couple of reasons, I’m not that into white as colour as it washes me out (okay I know that not everything is white but it sets the tone…), and given its more premium I was wondering whether the quality justifies the price.
However one visit to their shop in Westfield East London and I was sold. I’ve been looking for a new bathrobe for sometime. When I was able to get up close and personal with their robe range I understood what some of the fuss is about – so I’ve finally displaced my old Ikea one (which is now relegated to fake tanning only), and replaced it with this one.
I am a big fan of it so far, soft, stylish, and reasonably priced given the quality. Incidentally – I also feel in love with this particular candle, Highland Escape, which I am hoping that someone might buy me for Xmas.
Their loungewear and daywear is also worth a look, and I know that people make a lot of fuss about their cashmere socks , but I have not tried them.
5. River Island
Well their lounge wear is a bit more out there and blingy than some of the brands recommended in this post. But it has drama, and we don’t always have to be sophisticated and understated.
I’ve come across a few things I really like over the last couple of months, but my budget has dictated I’ve not taken the plunge yet. Here are some examples.
I liked the cut and fabric of this set when I saw it in store. Available in a few colours.
Not your usual loungewear but this is a great dress and cardigan set
Soft and stylish slippers
Here are a few others brands I haven’t tried but look great to me, have the kind of stylish soft and snuggly stuff I like, and they have lots of fans.
- 6. Micha Lounge – great for a range of separates and lounge wear jumpsuits
- 8. Bluebella – more of a boudoir rather than cosy style, they also do beautiful lingerie, and a bit more affordable than Agent Provocateur (but a similar vibe).
- 9. Calvin Klein – not exactly a well kept secret. But I liked their range sleek of basics like this top.
- 10. Eberjay – this one is new to me but I really liked their range of lounge wear and nightwear – it looks like it ticks all my boxes.
