What is THIS TREND ALl aBout?
The “Quiet Luxury” summer trend has been all over social media this summer. It has caused what I feel is a surprising amount of controversy – given what are being shared are primarily classic and timeless looks. The classist and racist implications have been hotly debated. One You-tuber I follow had to remove her quiet luxury video when her followers embarked on vitriolic exchanges in her comments, arguing presumably for and against the trend. I think the main point is that it is also known as “old money”. Here the message is – ” if you want to emulate the style of the super rich and dress like you have money but don’t want to show off about it” – then this is how you do it. I do see the point – why should people aspire to pass them selves off as one of the (US) elite classes? As if being who they are is not good enough. In a fashion culture which is more about finding ways to express our authentic selves, I can see why this trend strikes a very false note.
I tried out Quiet Luxury
I was keen therefore to find out what all the fuss was about. I did my research and then had a look through my own wardrobe and saw what I had got that would fit the trend. Well surprise, surprise I was able to put together all the looks below without buying a thing. That is because “Quiet Luxury” is essentially a re-brand of classic dressing. It relies on being able to combine a number of understated neutral pieces together with classic accessories.
I am personally a major fan of dressing this way, and really enjoyed putting these looks together. A positive aspect of this is that this trend has also been championed by the fashion industry as part of the sustainable fashion agenda. Arguably dressing like this should steer you towards investing in timeless classic pieces rather than throw away fast fashion. It is a good point – however there are also many posts about how to achieve quiet luxury for less or on a budget…
Quiet Luxury Summer to Autumn looks
Whatever you think about the ethos behind the trend – I do think this that these classic looks are a great way to round off the summer and will also transition beautifully to your Autumn wardrobe. I think this way of dressing is also incredibly versatile, there are pieces here that will work for most body shapes. It will also work well for those who prefer warmer or cooler toned pieces. For example, if you look better in cooler tones then swap out the cream items for white, opt for black rather than tan accessories, and add silver jewellery and black sunnies as your accents.

I have included a capsule wardrobe graphic below. The pieces I have chosen are the same as or very similar to the pieces I am wearing below. If you see anything you like here then click here to access the stoppable links
The beauty is that these pieces and accessories can be combined together to make a many looks. Essentially if you like understated elegance then you can’t go wrong here. Because these looks are so classic too – if you are looking to invest in some items that you will have in your wardrobe for years to come then there are some great options below.
As a Personal Stylist I really enjoy searching for wardrobe items that I know my clients will love. If you would like to learn more about how to create these classic looks in a way that works for you or if you have any other fashion dilemmas or dreams then I would love to chat to you.
